What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained as a trained professional pregnancy, birth and postnatal support person.
A birth coach/ doula offers continuous support to the mother through pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum.
As a birth Doula I recognise childbirth as a key life experiance that you will remember throughout your life. I am dedicated to making these memories as memorable and as special as possible, however that looks for you.
I understand the physiology of birth and the needs of a mother during labour. Doulas assist not just the mother but their partners in preparing for and carrying out emotional support and physical comfort measures during birth as well as helping parents get the information they need to make informed decisions.
Doulas are not medically trained, therefore all medical decisions and responsibility must be made by the parents.
Mums who work with birth doulas report greater satisfaction with childbirth, fewer experience postpartum depression, increased self-esteem and better mother baby interactions.
Why should you have a doula? What are the benefits?
